Valentino Couture Spring/Summer 2012
Paris, January 25, 2012Floral prints were a key feature in Valentino’s Spring/Summer 2012 couture collection today. The palette was very neutral, there was was no bold orange like we saw in Versace or there was no bright pinks or cool blues that dominated Elie Saab, but rather a simple and crisp base colour for the gorgeous prints. To be honest, there really is no need for bright colours when working with prints, that’s just my opinion. Because I feel like a print is such a dominating feature on a garment and it should not be battling with a bright colour for attention. These prints are very feminine and very simple, but on the perfectly designed garment, I think it just looks divine.
What I liked the most about this collection was the mix of materials that was used. I just adored the fact some of the garments had a sheer material over the top, I just thought that looked really beautiful and very couture. I also love the fact that the collection felt very vintage. There was no sexy and seductive designs like Versace, but rather elegant and classic. This is a fine collection and for me this is a lot better then the previous couture collection from Valentino.
